Another great character defining moment of Judai…
A long while back I was arguing which main protagonist cares about their feiends the LEAST since Yugioh is so heavy about friendship. I argued Judai but then re-watched this episode and was amazed by this speech! Made me rethink my stance.

Haha, well you’re not wrong! Judai did in fact care the least about his friends for a lot of the duration of GX. That’s why he fell further and harder than all of the other protagonists combined when he became the corrupted Supreme King in season 3. He did not listen to his friends’ pleas for help many times throughout the series, and that’s why he took so long saving Manjoume and Asuka from the Society of Light, and why his friends ended dying in Dark World. But Judai realized how he was an awful friend and how broken he truly was. And he spends season 4 trying to heal what he can of his broken heart while trying his best to be a better friend than he was before by helping his friends in his own unique way. Judai is more dynamic than any other character I’ve ever seen. The writers used the flaws he had when they created him to build him up, destroy him, and rebuild him into someone anew. This alone easily makes him my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh protagonist.

Judai and GX itself didn’t just illustrate the importance of friendship, they illustrated how you should treat your friends, too.
